The 2026 Ellesmere Port & District Ladies Bowling League Novice Cup will be held at Burton & Puddington on Thursday 6 August. Scratch time s 11:45am.
This competition, spearheaded by the Burton & Puddington Ladies team, is designed to encourage and develop new bowlers.
Six players have signed up this year. With so few players, a knockout format will not be very satisfying, especially as two competitors would receive byes.
The competition will, therefore, run as follows:
Group 1
Players 1, 2, 3
Games: 1×2, 1×3, 2×3
Group 2
Players 4, 5, 6
Games: 4×5, 4×6, 5×6
This will give every player two games and the finalists a third.
Players will be assigned to a group by drawing names out of ‘a hat’.
Group winners will be determined by the number of wins. In the case of a draw, the player with the highest aggregate will be declared the winner. The winner of group 1 will play the winner of group 2 in the final.
There will be a coin toss at the beginning of each game to determine who will have the jack.
Games will be played to 21 but each competitor will start with 5 points.
